In the Data Lake both real-time transaction data as well as historic transaction data exists in unison. Most of the analytics that needs to be done in a Data Lake require both these data to arrive at meaningful and useful business insights.

From Data Lake you could ask for specific services against present OLTP data (real-time data services) as well as from old historic OLTP data (batch data service). In our Lambda Architecture, this is achieved through Speed and Batch layer respectively.
