National Mission Control Centres (MCCs) delegate SAR coordinating roles to their subordinate RCCs. A reliable communications link is necessary between MCC/RCC/Mobile Stations as it is entirely possible that Distress Alerts may be received and handled by RCCs many thousands of miles from the distress vessel.
