EFFECTIVE USE OF OBLIGATORY DOCUMENTS AND PUBLICATIONS

It is imperative that candidates for the GMDSS GOC are aware of the documents on board and their uses.

RADIO RECORD KEEPING

A Radio Log is carried on board and must be kept up-to-date.

The Radio Log shall contain:-

a) a summary of communications relating to Distress, Urgency, and Safety traffic;

b) a reference to important service incidents (eg. MSI);

c) if the ship's rules permit, the ship's position at least daily; and

d) the time at which the above occurred.

KNOWLEDGE OF THE REGULATIONS AND AGREEMENTS GOVERNING THE MARITIME MOBILE SERVICE AND THE MARITIME MOBILE SATELLITE SERVICE.

Knowledge of the above-mentioned Regulations and Agreements is necessary ...
