This section looks at design methodologies and tools for multiprocessors, pri-
marily for systems-on-chips. A system-on-chip is composed of many prede-
signed hardware and software modules. Additional hardware and software
modules must be synthesized or modified to create interfaces between those
existing components. The management of module interfaces is a key problem in
the design of heterogeneous embedded multiprocessors.
A common approach to design reuse is to standardize around a few key com-
