See the Case Through
Finding a suspect and bringing a charge (or charges) is not the end. The first thing that you must do after you make a move is to imagine it going through the system until a guilty verdict or a similar finding is reached. If at any point you do not feel like you wish to see a case through these unglamorous steps, don't bring charges. It is very embarrassing for a police department to accuse a suspect and then not pursue the case through the courts. It will happen occasionally, but be sure to avoid it however you can.
What good is it to arrest someone if you are not going to pursue a conviction? What good is it to get an employee fired through a disciplinary action if they can later sue, successfully, for wrongful termination? ...
