What PCI Configuration Accomplishes
During system initialization, low level BIOS or other system software uses configuration transaction cycles to “walk” each PCI-compatible bus (PCI, PCI-X, HyperTransport, AGP, etc.) and read the PCI configuration space of each device function it finds.
