It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.

3.8.2 IMS
IMS Versions 7.1, 8.1, and 9.1 on z/OS can participate in composite monitoring when the
middleware transport vehicle is either IMS Connect or WebSphere MQ.
3.9 Middleware for composite request monitoring
The composite request monitoring of Application Monitor works with the CICS Transaction
Gateway, IMS Connect, or WebSphere MQ. All three products are used as transport
mechanisms between servers. For CICS TS systems, requests conforming to external call
interface (ECI) programming protocols are tracked as they traverse servers and systems.
For IMS and WebSphere MQ, message-driven models lie at their center, and Application
Monitor correlates the message traffic across servers and systems.
