One of the newest departments in the iTunes Store is the App Store. It hosts thousands of little programs you can add to your iPod Touch to make it a tiny pocket computer and a stylish media machine. Currency converters, 3-D video games, newsreaders, ebooks, blogging tools, guitar-chord programs, and mobile versions of popular sites like Facebook and eBay are among the many offerings.
Many apps are free (click the All Free Applications link to see them all corralled), and most cost less than $10. Click the category links on the left side of the window to browse the available software.
You purchase apps just like music and movies: see, click, buy. Your programs sync up when you connect the Touch with iTunes. (You can also buy apps right on the Touch, as Chapter 3 explains.) Some programs for sale are intended for the iPhone and its hardware, though, so as with any software: check the system requirements before you buy.
