Using the Control Flow
The control flow organizes and orchestrates the execution of the entire package. When you’re
designing your SSIS packages, the Control Flow tab is the starting point. As mentioned in
Lesson 4, each tab has a toolbox that contains items specific to that tab. You have three types
of items available to you in the control flow. First, there are two types of items available in the
Control Flow tab toolbox: control flow items and maintenance plan items.
The control flow items are divided into two types: container and execution tasks.
The maintenance items include tasks such as Backup, Index Rebuild, and Update
Statistics tasks.
One final item available to you in the control flow, one not contained in the toolbox, is the
precedence constraint.
These items available to you in the control flow can be configured with a graphical user inter-
face, with the exception of the Data Flow task.
CONTROL FLOW CONTAINERS
The control flow includes three types of containers whose purpose is to add structure to the
entire package. These containers are as follows:
The
Sequence Container organizes tasks and potentially other containers into smaller
sets of tasks to assist in structuring the workflow of the package.
The
For Loop Container will create a workflow that repeats until some condition is
evaluated as false.
The
Foreach Loop Container creates a repetitive control flow that uses a data ...
