LESSON 30 Using RepoRt BUildeR
Choose the radio button labeled “Use a shared dataset” and click Browse. You can now select datasets
from the report server and use the dataset as a source for the report. If you drag a table, chart, or map
onto the design surface you can use the columns included in the dataset as the source for the report.
TRY IT
In this Try It, you will learn to build a report using the Report Builder. You will leverage existing
datasets and data parts.
Lesson Requirements
You will create a report using Report Builder 3.0. A report server must be running on your local
machine or you must have access to a report server. You need the BI Trainer Project 30 project, which
is included in this lesson’s download available from
www.wrox.com. Once you have downloaded the
project, deploy it to your report server. You will also need the AdventureWorks2008 R2 database.
Hints
The report will include a report part named ProductSalesBarChart. The report will also use a
shared dataset named CountrySales. Using the CountrySales dataset, you will create a matrix that
has products as rows and years as columns.
Step-by-Step
1. Open the BI Trainer Project 30 solution.
2. Right-click the project in the Solution Explorer and select Properties; the Project Property
Screen will appear (Figure 30-10).
