LESSON 11 Understanding ssas
When you double-click the .dim file in Solution Explorer, you open the Dimension Editor. Here you
edit the dimension (shown in Figure 11-6), attribute relationship, and properties. The fantastic thing
is that if a dimension is used in different ways as a role-playing dimension (we’ll get deeper into that
term when we create a cube), you’ll need to manage the dimension only one time and your changes
will be shown across each of the role-playing dimensions.

TRY IT
In this Try It, you’re going to deploy the AdventureWorks sample cube, which you are going to use
later in this SSAS section of the book. This database is not installed by default, but by the deploy-
ment of a project. That project is available to you only once you’ve installed the AdventureWorks
sample databases from CodePlex.com (
http://msftdbprodsamples.codeplex.com/).
Lesson Requirements
After you install the AdventureWorks sample databases (the database that ends in DW or DW2008 is the
important one), you’re ready to open the project for deployment. If you don’t have the AdventureWorks
database, you can install it from http://msftdbprodsamples.codeplex.com. The project file will
be located in the C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Tools\Samples\AdventureWorks 2008
Analysis Services Project directory by default and you’ll need to pick Standard or Enterprise, based
