Editing Your Cube
With your dimensions now complete, to finish the base cube development you’ll need to modify the
measure groups. In this lesson you’ll learn how to format the cube to make it more usable for your
end users. You’ll also see how to browse your cube using the simple browser built into the BIDS
environment.
The examples in this lesson start where we left off in Lesson 14. If you didn’t
do the last lesson, you can download the starting point (Lesson14Complete.zip)
from this lesson’s download on

To open the Cube Editor (Figure 15-1) double-click the .cube file from the Solution Explorer.
Once it is open you’ll see the Data Source View, which makes up the cube in the right pane.
Yellow items are fact tables and blue items are dimensions. Green tables represent dimensions
that are also fact tables.
On the bottom left you can find a list of the dimensions and their attributes. Finally, on the
top left you can find the measure groups and each of the measures. In this pane you’ll be able
to set the measure properties, such as how the numbers should be rolled up.

dimensions with the same attributes, which they can drag over when querying. Each of these
