Interferences in practice
In practice, interferences are not negative in an absolute sense. Rather, they could also be the desired outcome, depending on the application. For example, in industrial machines such as pumps and compressors, ball bearings can have an interference fit with shafts to ensure both shaft and bearing will rotate together. Maintenance personnel will then use methods such as heating to install ball bearings with their interfering shafts. As SOLIDWORKS users, we need to be able to determine the interference instance in our assembly. It is also important for us to understand that, in certain cases, interference is desirable for fitting applications.
