Figure 1 provides a schematic overview of the entire life cycle of a thing. In the previous chapter, we illustrated how a Thing Registry can be used as a bulletin board to discover things according to some parameters. We used self-owned things to illustrate the concept without complicating matters unduly. But a Thing Registry can also be used to match things and owners, and interchange their network identities with each other. This matching of ownership is basically the registry of ownership for things that we need. The initial steps are as follows:
