Defining new roles

The proposed model creates room for several new business roles that companies can specialize in. Apart from device manufacturers and service providers, it also defines business models for the following:

• Smart City Operators: who provide infrastructure, monitor compliance of contracts, and enforce economic feedback
• Device publishers: who install, monitor, and publish things
• Data publishers: who maintain and publish datasets

The last two are particularly important. By creating open markets for data and things, actors will find it lucrative to publish these. This will also drive competition, which in turn will generate access to better and cheaper things and data, which in turn will drive the development of the Smart Society. ...
