CAS access to directory information
The CAS also provides a Name Service Provider interface (NSPI) endpoint for Outlook clients to handle requests for directory information that replaces the DSProxy component used in Exchange 2007. When an Outlook client makes a directory request, the Address Book service in the CAS intercepts it and checks with Active Directory to discover the site in which the client’s mailbox is located and the value of the RPCClientAccessServer property of the database that hosts the mailbox to know whether to connect to a particular server or array.
