Transport queues
Messages that the transport system is currently processing are held in in-memory queues. To make sure that the messages are reliably captured to disk, they are written into an Extensible Storage Engine (ESE) database called mail.que. When the transport service shuts down, it commits the contents of its in-memory queues to the database to ensure that messages are properly secured. Like other ESE databases, mail.que has a set of transaction logs and reserved logs that allow it to replay messages if a problem such as a server crash prevents the commitment of messages from memory at any point.
