The Mailbox Replication Service
The Microsoft Exchange Mailbox Replication Service (MRS) is the service that is responsible for processing move, import, and export requests. The MRS runs on every Client Access Server (CAS) server and is able to move information between databases, into databases (import), or out of databases (export). The import and export operations are new functionality for the MRS from Exchange Server 2010 SP1 onward. An Exchange 2010 MRS is only able to process move requests. The name of the MRS process is MSExchangeMailboxReplication.exe. This is sometimes conflated with the database replication used with Database Availability Groups (DAGs; MSExchangeReplication.exe), but they are two separate and distinct processes.
