Chapter 20. Displaying performance with indicators
Another type of data visualization you can use in a report is an indicator. A more common way to display key performance indicators (KPIs) in a report is to use an indicator rather than a gauge. Prior to SQL Server 2008 R2 Reporting Services, the only way to display KPIs without using a gauge was to upload multiple images and then use a conditional expression to determine which image to display. Beginning with SQL Server 2008 R2, you can now choose from several built-in indicator types and define the value ranges applicable to each indicator. If you still prefer to use your own images, you can adapt the indicator to use those images, too.
