Q: HAVE YOU ENTERED A PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITION? IF NOT, WHY NOT? DO THESE COMPETITIONS MATTER, AND SHOULD ONE TAKE THEM SERIOUSLY IN THEIR PHOTOGRAPHIC JOURNEY?
A: When I was in photography school I started volunteering at the Atlanta Photojournalism Seminar every year. I ended up working the contest portion of the event. My job was to run the slide shows of images for each category as a panel of judges reviewed the work and selected winners. The judges were the speakers and workshop leaders teaching during the seminar. These included Pulitzer Prize winners and top photo editors. Amazing people.
