Servicing the IBM
PC
and
compatibles
Of the six and a half million personal computers regularly in use in Western Europe, a very
significant proportion is accounted for by the IBM PC, PC-XT, PC-AT and numerous
'compatibles'. These machines, more than any other, have set the standard for personal
computers in the 1980s and have attracted a software base which outstrips all other machines.
This chapter is devoted specifically to servicing the IBM range of machines but the techniques
are applicable to a wide variety of other 'industry standard' personal computers.
