Roadmap

XML Schemas fit nicely into the XML family of technologies, providing a way to create a set of rules to structure your XML documents and create valid XML. Schemas supplement or replace Document Type Definitions, and as such are an important XML technology.

It would be hard not to notice that XML Schemas make pretty extensive use of XML Namespaces to accomplish datatypes, and to link the XML Schemas to XML instance documents. In Chapter 6, we will take a much closer look at XML Namespaces, how they are used with XML documents and with XML Schemas as well. From there, we will be ready to move on to the technologies for displaying XML in print and on the Web: XSL.
