FUJIO CHO’S EXPERIENCE WITH TAIICHI OHNO

Fujio Cho, former president, chairman, and honorary chairman of Toyota Motor Corporation, writes about his experience with Taiichi Ohno in the early years of his career.

When Ohno was promoted to director of manufacturing, his new responsibility included operations of the “temporary outsourcing office,” which Cho was in charge of. In case Toyota’s plants were temporarily unable to meet the required volume, the role of Cho’s office was to make decisions to subcontract the work to Toyota’s suppliers.
