The word photography means to draw or paint with light. When I first began studying photography, I was told that along with composition, the study of light would be a lifelong endeavor. Over the years, I’ve found this to be an absolute truth. When we first begin our adventure in photography, we’re drawn to the subject matter: Family, friends, vacations, or important events are the primary focus. As we progress, however, we begin to pay more attention to how the light affects our subjects. The quality of light, the angle or the color, all begin to influence our picture taking. This then, is a book about light, and its creative use in your pursuit of the artistic photograph.
