I use a couple of learning platforms, but I'm on O'Reilly more than anybody else. When you're there, you start learning. I'm never disappointed.I'm always learning. So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Initial Exposure/Test Shots
Back in the days of film, obtaining good nighttime exposures was largely a matter of trial and error. Fortunately for us, modern digital cameras do a great job measuring light in the dimly lit situations needed for light painting. Correct exposures for light painting require the consideration of two different types of light: ambient and painted Light.
Ambient light is the light that is already present in your scene. This could be sky light, moonlight, city lights or even the headlights from a car. Whatever the source, it’s considered ambient when it’s constant. The painted light is that which we add in with a flashlight (or even flash!).
