This chapter attempts to give you an idea of how companies program. The focus is on larger companies with big data processing staffs working on one or more mainframes and several micros, as well as supporting Web-based businesses. You will also learn about smaller companies and how they deal with pro gramming staffs and other types of computer personnel. Companies must coordinate their programming efforts to make the best use of their resources. This doesn't mean that every program wanted by every person gets written.
