Whichever type of question they use, smart persuaders listen intently to the other side. They are active listeners and don't get distracted by emotion-laden words. They withhold judgment and try to understand the other person's point of view. They look behind the spoken words for the emotional content of the message transmitted by the subtleties of voice and body language. They appreciate that what is not said can be just as important as what is said.
