BUILDING THE GLOBAL TEMPLATE
Increasingly, companies rely on global design templates to both streamline resources and promote a consistent message globally. The localized IBM web sites, shown in Figure 11.1, share a template that includes a navigation system, color scheme, and typeface, and still allows room for localized content and promotions. A global template supports the inherent need of multinational companies to convey a global image, but with a local touch. A template also supports a distributed web management structure; while the global design team manages the global template, the local design teams are free to manage the local portions of their web sites.
