Shop Your Case Around

You’ve drafted your case, but you’re not ready to present it just yet. First, you need to get buy-in from your stakeholders—because you’ll want allies in the room when tough questions come up.

Two people in particular are critical: the head of the department that will lead the work and the head of the department that will benefit most from it. With these individuals on board, you’ll defuse many concerns and greatly increase your chances of getting that green light.

Go back to the champion you identified early in the case-development process. Ideally, you’ve asked for her input and kept her updated all along. But if not, definitely connect before the presentation.
