3.5.8 Geometric Mean
Geometric mean (GM) is the nth root of the product of n items of a series. For example, if there
are three items in a series, their geometric mean would be the cube root of the product of all the
three items. If these three items are 4, 6, and 9, then their geometric mean, which is generally
denoted by G, can be computed as

In the previous sections, we have seen that average can be calculated differently for various types
of distributions. Likewise, geometric mean can also be calculated for three different types of
