developed by statisticians. For small populations, simple random sampling is appropriate, but
when the population is large, simple random sampling becomes cumbersome. This is because
numbering all the members of the population and then selecting items is not an easy task.
Simple random sampling is based on the process of selecting a sample randomly. This does
not mean that the randomness allows haphazard selection of samples; it means that the process
