It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Endpoint redirection
Service inventories may change over time for business or technical reasons. It may not be possible to replace all references to old endpoints simultaneously.
By adopting this design practice, consumers of a service endpoint adapt when service inventories are restructured. It automatically refers service consumers that access the stale endpoint identifier to the current identifier:
HTTP natively supports the endpoint redirection pattern using a combination of 3xx status codes and standard headers:
- 301 moved permanently
- 307 temporary redirect
- location/newURI
