22.1 INTRODUCTION
Peptides are molecules formed from a string of amino acids. There are 20 natu-
rally occurring amino acids, usually denoted by letters of the alphabet, and any
particular peptide is uniquely identified by the particular sequence of amino ac-
ids. Peptides are of great interest for industrial, pharmaceutical, and medical
