12.5 Package types
Today’s voltage references range from the simple, low-accuracy zener diode to the lat-
est sophisticated, expensive monolithic IC. There are thousands of different zener
diode parts and certainly hundreds of different voltage reference ICs to choose from.
Each has its place, and what is good for one design may not be for another. Voltage
references are available in many different packages, many of them tiny surface-mount
types (see Figure 12.10). The package type not only defines how small the overall cir-
cuit can be made, but also governs the power dissipation of the device, ...
