It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.

The Intersil/Xicor FGA™ voltage reference
flat and linear compared to either the bandgap or the buried-zener, and its long-term
stability is better than most other types of reference. Consider using the XFET voltage
reference as one’s first choice in systems having a supply voltage of between 4.1 and
18 volts. If low noise, high initial accuracy, a low tempco, good long-term stability, a low
operating current, a very wide operating temperature range, and a relatively low cost
are important factors, then put the XFET at the top of your list. We will review the
XFET further in the following chapter.
