comprise a procedure and to identify the corresponding procedural pre-
requisites in the order of their performance. In a procedural task analysis,
in essence one performs an HTA, but one that is directed toward the
decomposition of procedural steps rather than the decomposition of the
broader idea of skills.
Two points should be noted that have potentially important implica-
tions for training older adults. First, as with HTA, any step (or skill) that
is decomposed is intended to continue to provide a full description of that
