It’s time to start digging for insights.
In the previous chapter, we discussed the journey from data to insights by means of analysis. Over the next three chapters you will learn more about a number of research tools and methods, focused on generating actionable insights.
You’ll find that it’s not a linear approach of moving from one data source to the next in an orderly sequence. More likely you will loop back to a data set at times, prompted by an insight from another piece of data. It’s okay; that is the process.
But where to begin? Analysis can be broken out into these key four areas,1 says Brent Dykes, author of two highly recommended books about analytics:
