Spotify have developed their own framework, called DIBB. It stands for Data–Insight–Belief–Bet.1 It’s similar to the one in this book, but with a deliberately different vocabulary. This subtle departure aims to foster a mindset and environment conducive to experimentation.
The first two steps – Data and Insights – should be familiar to you. In Chapter 3, we discussed how data breed insights through analysis and sensemaking. Some years back, Spotify noticed a trend that mobile usage was rising sharply, while desktop usage was declining. The insight, that mobile would soon dominate, prompted suggestions of radical change throughout the organization.2
