People will buy anything. The old adage “one person’s trash is another’s treasure” has never been more true than on eBay. And for this reason, you’ll find that people will sell just about anything. From handmade dolls to cell phone batteries, from computer components to human organs, from antique pottery to broken pieces of the Berlin Wall…to broken pieces of antique pottery, you’ll find a rich assortment of junk and jewels at the world’s largest flea market.
Selling on eBay [Hack #43] is a piece of cake. Just click the Sell button at the top of any eBay page and follow the prompts. When you’re done, your listing will start, and other eBay users can bid on it.
The hard part, however, is the stuff eBay doesn’t tell you, such as the fact that you should determine the market [Hack #42] for your item before you try to sell it. Nor does eBay explain which extra-cost listing upgrades provide the most bang for your buck or show you how to maximize the effectiveness of keywords in your listings. The hacks in this chapter are designed to show you the best ways to get more bids (and thus more money) for your items, as well as the fun stuff, like customizing your auction descriptions with JavaScript, HTML, forms, and other goodies.
