18章devops文化への架け橋: 人と人のつながりを育てる
ストーリーは、成功を収めた技術や効果的な文化を学ぶのに役立つだけではない。人と人とのあいだに強い結び付きを作り、維持していくきっかけにもなる。第Ⅲ部でも述べたように、個人やグループの間の強いつながりは、企業の健全性や生産性にプラスの効果を与える。
ストーリーは、このようなつながりを個人レベルで育てていく手段だ。自分自身についてのストーリーであるナラティブ（物語）から価値観を知ると、互いに相手を理解して共感を深めるのに役立つ。本章では、ナラティブのいくつかの要素を取り上げ、それがdevopsの全体的な文化的コンテキストとどのように関わっているのかを考える。また、こういった個別のストーリーの積み重ねが組織の健全性にどのような影響を与えるか、不健全な文化システムではなく健全な文化システムを作るためになにができるかについても考えていく。
18.1 仕事をめぐる個々のストーリーとナラティブ
「気になるのは仕事のことだけさ」などと言ったり、他のスキルよりも技術的なスキルを高く評価したりして、職場で個人的なことや人間関係的なことに立ち入るのを避ける人がいる。しかし、自分だけのためにソフトウェアを作っている個人企業を経営しているのでもない限り、一緒に仕事をする人がいて、他の人のためにソフトウェアを作っているのである。仕事の方程式から人間関係の側面を取り除くことはできない。
本章では、職場で個人のストーリーが果たす役割やそれが組織の文化に与える影響、逆に組織の文化が個人のストーリーに与える影響について考える。人が企業に入ってから辞めていくまで、こういったナラティブは、組織の文化の重要な一部であり、組織がそのなかで働く人たちにとってどれくらい健全なものかを左右する。 ...
