The Scoping Phase of the Incremental SDPM Strategy for the Feature-Driven Development Model

Figure 11-3 illustrates the project management process superimposed on the Feature-Driven Development Model. The resulting Incremental SDPM strategy for the Feature-Driven Development Scoping Phase is quite different from the Staged Delivery Waterfall Scoping Phase. Staged Delivery is more focused on the customer’s need to get to market early, whereas Feature-Driven Development is more focused on the technical architecture of the solution. The Scoping Phase of a Feature-Driven Development SDPM strategy consists primarily of collaborative sessions with the customer to model the solution and the solution approach.

In addition to preparing the Project Overview Statement, you perform seven other tasks in sequence to produce an acceptable model of the solution. These are drawn from Stephen R. Palmer and John M. Felsing’s A Practical Guide to Feature-Driven Development (Prentice Hall PTR, 2002). They are briefly described in the subsections that follow.

Forming the Modeling Team
