Inhibition
A good example to help us understand what alert inhibition is imagining a server rack and what happens if the top-of-rack switch fails. In this scenario, all the servers and services in that rack will start triggering alerts because they suddenly became unreachable. To avoid this problem, we can use the alert for the top-of-rack switch which, if triggered, will prevent the notifications for all the other alerts in that rack from going out. This helps the operator become more focused on the real problem and avoid a flood of unactionable alerts.
So, in a nutshell, inhibition allows you to map dependencies between alerts, and therefore prevents notifications for dependent alerts from going any further in the notification pipeline. ...
