I use a couple of learning platforms, but I'm on O'Reilly more than anybody else. When you're there, you start learning. I'm never disappointed.I'm always learning. So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
High-level overview of the Prometheus architecture
The Prometheus ecosystem is composed of several components, each with its own responsibility and clearly defined scope. Prometheus itself is essential as it sits squarely in the middle of most interactions, but many components are in fact optional, depending on your monitoring needs.
As we can see in the following diagram, the main components in the Prometheus ecosystem are as follows:
- The Prometheus server collects time series data, stores it, makes it available for querying, and sends alerts based on it.
- The Alertmanager receives alert triggers from Prometheus and handles routing and dispatching of alerts.
