Container orchestrators
Container orchestrators are a perfect place to extract what services are running and where, as it's their job to manage exactly that information. As such, the Prometheus discovery mechanism supports some of the most widely used container orchestration platforms, such as Kubernetes and Marathon, the container orchestration platform for Mesos and DC/OS. Since we've been using Kubernetes for most of our examples throughout this book, we're going to focus on this platform to explain how these types of systems work.
