connected remotely from the client:

Now the installation and the configuration of the Oracle client is finished. We will
continue to install and configure the Sun ONE Directory Server.
8.7 Installing the Sun ONE Directory Server
As shown in Figure 8-1 on page 358, we use the Sun ONE Directory Server as
the LDAP server for WebSphere Portal. This machine is installed on the same
machine as WebSphere Portal.
In this section, we will introduce the steps to install and configure the Sun ONE
Directory Server. For more detailed information about the Sun ONE Directory
Server, please refer to the documentation from SUN.
8.7.1 Preparing for the installation
Before the installation, we need to perform the following preparation steps:
1. Prepare the group and the user account
2. Prepare the installation images
3. Prepare the application home
Note: If you did not create the net service, you cannot connect to the
database in the server. You must create the net service first. To do so, use the
command netca.
