10.5.4 Credential Vault
WebSphere offers a Credential Vault as a PortletService. The PortletService
interface of the portlet API enables portlets to use pluggable services like
Credential Vault via dynamic discovery. It provides portlets with a mechanism for
mapping from a user identity to a credential, such as a secret. Therefore, portlets
do not need to store user credentials as part of the user-specific portlet data.
In WebSphere Portal V5, the portal authenticates users using the credentials
stored in vaults.
