3.6 Planning for Web servers
The Web server is the front end of the WebSphere Portal solution.
Although there is an integrated Web server in the WebSphere Application Server,
it is mainly for administrative and test purposes. In the runtime environment, it is
strongly suggested that you use a Web server.
To plan for the Web servers, you need to consider the following sections.
3.6.1 Existing Web server
If there is an existing Web server, we must make sure it is supported by
WebSphere Portal. The installer will not automatically detect the Web server
during the installation but it will provide the option to install the plugin to the Web
server, if required.
