REST as an Architectural Style

The first thing to understand when trying to “get” REST is the concept of architectural styles. An architectural style is to architecture what a design pattern is to a specific design. It is an abstraction of those aspects that are common to different concrete implementations, enabling discussion of their relevant benefits without getting lost in technical detail.
