Mac OS automatically tracks the things you open. It creates submenus of the most recently opened items in four categories—applications, documents, servers, and folders—making it quick and easy to open them again.

You can specify how many recent applications and documents Mac OS X should track in the Recent Items submenu (Figure 37) by setting options in the Appearance preferences pane. I explain how in Chapter 21.
