Find out how much disk space I have left?

Applications Utilities Disk Utility select hard drive or partition (e.g., Macintosh HD) Information

Launch the Finder and look in the status bar, just below the toolbar. You will see something that says how many items are in that directory, and how much space is available on your hard drive.

In the Finder, select the the hard drive icon in the Computer view and select File Get Info (

-I).

Issue the df -k command in the Terminal

Find out whether a drive is formatted with HFS?

Create a disk image?

Launch Disk Copy (/Applications/Utilities), then go to File New Blank Image (

-N). Enter a name for the disk image in the “Save as” field (a .dmg extension will be appended), select where you would like it saved to, enter a name for the volume, its size and format, and choose whether the disk image will be encrypted or not. Click the Create button to create the disk image, which will be mounted on your Desktop. Double-click on the disk image to open its Finder window, then drag and drop the items you would like included in the disk image, close the Finder window, and Eject the image (

-E) to complete the process.
